Thanks in advance for reading and respecting our comparatively chill submission guidelines (remember, we only want words created by our fellow humans):
Poetry – Please send us 1–3 poems for consideration, compiling all poems in a single document. Include a brief, third-person bio (75-word max) in your cover letter. Any subsequent poem after the third poem in your doc won't be read (it's nothing personal; our small staff is just blissfully outnumbered by submissions).
Fiction: Send us one (1) piece of fiction (4000-word max). Excerpts from longer works of fiction and flash fiction are both welcome. Include a brief, third-person bio (75-word max) in your cover letter.
Nonfiction: Send us one (1) piece of nonfiction (4000-word max). Excerpts from longer works of nonfiction and flash nonfiction are both welcome. Include a brief, third-person bio (75-word max) in your cover letter.
“Prude Bruce Clause” – Please limit yourself to submitting work in just one (1) genre per reading period (i.e., either poetry, fiction, or nonfiction).
For Our Loyal Veterans – If your work was featured in a previous issue of NBR, feel free to continually submit. Show us once again just how brilliant you are!
Withdrawals – To withdraw a submission at any time during our reading periods, please do so here in Submittable (i.e., if part of a poetry submission, specify which poem[s] to withdraw via a Submittable message). Simultaneous submissions are copacetic, yet kindly inform us ASAP if your work is accepted elsewhere.
*No reading fees – NBR is a labor of love, folks; we just want your words, so pony up!
